Frequently asked questions
Playing
Is GlobeTap free?
Yes. The daily round is free, with no account and no sign-up. The site is financed by advertising.
How many rounds can I play per day?
One daily round of five questions. Everyone gets the same five facts on the same day, which makes it easy to compare results with friends. If you reload the page in the middle of a round, you continue where you left off.
When does the next round start?
Every day at 00:00 UTC. That is 01:00 or 02:00 in Central Europe (depending on daylight saving time) and the evening before in the Americas. After a round, the result screen shows a countdown to the next one.
How are points calculated?
A tap inside the right country scores 100 points. Otherwise the points depend on the distance from your tap to the country's nearest border: 90 points at 100 km, about half at 500 km, nothing from 1,500 km on. The full table is on the How to play page.
I can't hit a tiny country. Is that fair?
For the smallest countries (Malta, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City, Singapore, Bahrain, the Maldives, Seychelles, Mauritius and Barbados) a tap within 25 km of the border counts as a hit. Zooming in also helps: close up, the globe switches to satellite images.
What does my streak mean?
The number of days in a row on which you finished the daily round. Miss a day and it starts again at zero. Your best streak is kept in your statistics.
Where can I see the answers of past rounds?
In the round archive. It lists every finished round with its five facts, the answers, the explanations and the sources. Today's round only appears there after it has ended.
Countries and facts
Which countries are in the game?
181 countries from every continent. A few very small island states in the Pacific, the Caribbean and Africa are left out of the daily World round, because they are hard to find on a globe and little is commonly known about them.
Can the same country come up two days in a row?
No. A country used in a round is paused for the next two days. Within one round, the five facts always come from five different countries.
Will facts repeat?
Each country has ten facts. The game works through all of them, about 1,800 in total, before any fact is used again. At five per day that is roughly one year without a single repeat.
Where do the facts come from?
Every fact comes with a short explanation and a link to its source, almost always the Wikipedia article about the country or the topic. The facts are written so that they never contain the country's name. More on this on the About page.
I think a fact is wrong. What can I do?
Please write to [email protected] with the round number and the fact. Wrong or outdated facts are corrected.
Your data
Do I need an account?
No. Your progress and statistics are saved in your browser on your device. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, your statistics start again from zero.
What data does GlobeTap collect?
As little as possible. Details, including how advertising works on this site and how to refuse advertising cookies, are in the privacy policy.
